Google Introduced Google Wallet: Mobile Payment System

Finally Google has announced the replacement of human wallets and have introduced eWallet for transactions worldwide. Google has teaming up with MasterCard, Citigroup and Sprint to launch a new phone based Mobile Payment System. Which is officially known as Google Wallet, which will enable special chips embedded in many future Android devices to be used for payments? Instead of swiping a credit card, customers will be able to wave their Android phone in front of a reader to make a payment.

According to Stephanie Tilenius, Google's vice president of commerce; 

"We believe the shopping experience has not yet been transformed by technology or by magical experiences. Now, your phone can be your wallet, you just tap, pay, and save."

Google Wallet is being tried out first in a very limited release in New York and San Francisco. At the moment it will only work with Sprint�s Nexus S 4G phone but more Android based phones will be added in the coming months. It will also only work at the moment for people who own a Citi MasterCard or a Google Prepaid card with support for Google Wallet. A number of retailers and merchants have pledged support for Google Wallet. In addition, Google also announced a second related project today called Google Offers that will give you a special offer per day from a merchant that you can make use of via Google Wallet.

Windows Phone 7 Mango Official Features and Rumors Update

Microsoft is soon going to launch its next generation Windows Phone 7.5 codename "Mango". Windows Phone 7 is due for a major update in the near future and Microsoft will integrate all its new features and updates in its upcoming Windows Phone 7.5 "Mango". Carriers will now be able to add a lot more customization to the phones they're releasing. Microsoft announced that that Mango will be the release that gets shipped on the first Nokia phone, and that Nokia phones running mango are already in the lab and working.

Google Released Android 3.1 Update and also Announced Android Ice Cream Sandwich

Google has officially announced the latest Android firmware version Android 3.1 in Google IO Conference today. The latest firmware Android 3.1 update will be released today for Verizon Xoom 3G customers, and will continue to roll out to other customers in the coming days. The latest additions to Google Android 3.1 will be turning your Xoom into a USB host. This means people will be able to plug in their cameras and other devices, making the Xoom act like a desktop computer, allowing you to transfer photos and other digital media. The USB host will even allow users to plug in controllers (with the Xbox 360 controller used as a demo) to play games.

Android 3.1 also includes major improvement in widget support, so users can expand or shrink the size of widgets on their screen, getting more out of the widgets you want. Google is now activating 400,000 Android devices daily.

Apart from Android 3.1 update, Google has also revealed new Android Ice Cream Sandwich. The next update, due in Q4 2011, will work on both tablets and mobile devices. Google also unveiled the new logo for the update:

Microsoft Most Dominating Company in Operating System Revenue

According to the latest report from Gartner Research about the Worldwide Operating System Revenue and market share from companies and vendors, It has been declared that Microsoft is still dominating in making of Operating Systems for PC's, according to the amount of revenue it generates. Last Year in 2010 Microsoft had $23.848 billion revenue from its Operating System business, which gave it a 78.6 percent share of the entire worldwide OS market for that year.

Earlier this week Gartner more said in its press release that worldwide revenue for OS software came in at $30.4 billion, which was an increase of 7.8 percent compared to 2009. While Microsoft still has a commanding lead in OS revenue, the report did say that Apple's Mac OS was the fastest growing in revenue in 2010 in terms of the client based OS business. The Mac OS grew by 15.8 percent that year and with revenues of $580 million. Even with that growth the Mac OS only has a 1.7 percent market share of the Client based OS systems. Overall the client OS section of the business grew by 9.3 percent in 2010 while server based OSs grew its revenue by 5.7 percent.

IBM and HP were the number two and three companies in worldwide OS revenue, respectively, in 2010. IBM owns three OSs and showed the highest growth with its AIX OS with 9.2 percent growth. HP's HP-UX OS shows a 3.2 percent growth in 2010. Red Hat's version of Linux is the biggest in the overall Linux server market. Its revenues went up to $592 million in 2010, an 18.2 percent growth and a whopping 58.2 percent share of the entire Linux server OS market.

Microsoft To Officially Buy Skype for $8.5 Billion

War between Google, Facebook and Microsoft to Buy Skype is over now, Microsoft has officially announced its intention to Buy Skype, the Internet phone software company. This morning's Press Release announced that the price that Microsoft is Paying for Skype will indeed be $8.5 Billion in Cash, as previously revealed on Monday night by the AllThingsDigital website.

There was a rumored spread before the announcement of the purchase of Skype by Microsoft that Google and Facebook were also interested in the platform. But, how serious were those offers? According to Allthingsd, those offers were not serious at all. It appears that Microsoft was the only company who made an offer serious enough for Skype to even consider being acquired. Allthingsd states:

While Andreessen declined to talk about others, sources said there were no serious ones beyond initial flirting, except for Microsoft. Not Google and not Facebook.

According to the Microsoft official press release; Microsoft plans to use Skype, which has 170 million registered users, for many of its devices and systems such as Xbox and Kinect, Xbox Live, the Windows Phone, Lync and Outlook, Microsoft said in a statement. The company has pledged to continue supporting and developing Skype clients on non-Microsoft platforms as well.

The deal will turn Skype into its own division inside of Microsoft. Skype's current CEO Skype Tony Bates will be the president of the new Microsoft Skype Division and will report directly to Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer. Ballmer is quoted in the press release as saying, 

Tony Bates has a great track record as a leader and will strengthen the Microsoft management team. I�m looking forward to Skype�s talented global workforce bringing its insights, ideas and experience to Microsoft.

Google Officially Launch 'Google Music Service'

Everyone seems to be waiting for the launch of Google Music Service, so no more wait for music freak persons. Google has finally launched its Music Service website called Google Music (Beta), quite similar to Amazon's Cloud Player. Google Music is basically based on Google�s Cloud based music player which allows you to listen to any music you upload to the anticipated cloud service offline, and it tracks what you�ve listened to recently to make it automatically available offline. You will also be able to easily select which songs/artists/playlists that you want to make available offline.

Google Music was announced at last year�s Google I/O and many users have been patiently awaiting further announcement about the service. After Amazon launched a similar service recently, like Amazon, Google will launch without the cooperation of the record labels. We had heard that the company had been tussling with the music industry, particularly the recently sold WMG, and it seems those conflicts have not been resolved.

The purpose of services like these is to make music more accessible to users across all devices, and frankly, while being able to listen to your collection on your Android device and anywhere you can log in to your Google account is pretty handy, the limitations (no caching, purchasing songs, etc.) will make this product less attractive to consumers.

We�ve been waiting for a while for a music streaming/subscription service to really take off with consumers besides Spotify, since we still can�t use that in the U.S. Many have postulated that Google Music would be that service.

Facebook Diverting More Traffic to News Websites and Channels

Pew Research Center�s has published a report today about the Facebook influence upon news readership in which they have mentioned the importance of How Facebook diverting traffic to News reading websites. We have already seen numerous reports point out Facebook�s growing influence upon news readership and Pew Research Center�s Project for Excellence in Journalism released data showing exactly that.

Facebook ranks as the second or third largest driver of traffic to the top five news websites studied by Pew, based on data from Nielsen. According the Pew Research Center�s report Facebook has become the massive social networking site in term of diverting traffic to any website rapidly and fast, but one of the top sites for which there was referral data derived at least some of their audience through Facebook. The one exception was Google News, whose content links to other websites.

According to the Pew Research Center's Report, Facebook drives:

• Around six percent of traffic to the Examiner.
• Roughly seven percent of traffic to CNN.
• About seven percent of traffic to ABC News.
• Eight percent of traffic to The Huffington Post.
• Six percent of traffic to The New York Times.

Milward Brown�s has published a report about the Top Fastest Growing Brands of 2011 in which they includes websites from different categories like social networking websites, technology websites, search engine websites, online shopping website, restaurants, commercial banks, stock markets, insurance companies etc. The most interesting part of that report is that first time Milward Brown�s has includes the social network website in their categories.

According to the Milward Brown�s report Facebook is the Fastest Growing Brand of 2011 and it�s toping the chart of annual ranking of the top 100 consumer-facing brands worldwide. Any strengthening of Facebook�s brand would probably register in the form of bigger advertising sales, and so far, revenue estimates seem to bear that out.

Online Ticketing Service 'GrouponLive' from Groupon and Live Nation

Soon internet users will be able to get Online Ticketing Service from Groupon and Live Nation. Because Groupon and Live Nation has team up to launch a new Online Ticketing Deals on local events channel called GrouponLive.

GrouponLive, the service will combine Groupon's local distribution abilities with Live Nation's roster of events. Consumers will be able to use GrouponLive to find limited-time deals on sporting events, concerts, theater shows, and other live events, the companies said. However, it will be limited to North America.

GrouponLive, which will launch �in time for the summer concert season,� the companies said in a statement, will utilize Groupon�s local reach to market event tickets sold through Live Nation. Interested parties are advised to sign up for the service at grouponlive.com, although we expect GrouponLive offers will also appear in the inboxes of existing subscribers come late spring.

The announcement of GrouponLive comes at a time when Groupon is facing more pressure than ever. Aside from competing services from Google, Facebook, and Amazon-backed LivingSocial, AT&T announced last week that it's launching a Groupon rival through its Yellow Pages site.

The deal was brought about in part by Guy Oseary, who sits on Groupon�s advisory board and works with Live Nation on behalf of performance artists he manages, such as Madonna.

Facebook for BlackBerry v2.0 can now click on BlackBerry PINs, phone numbers and email addresses they see on Facebook wall posts or profiles to open a menu of options for using that contact information with the device�s native apps. Users can add data to their contacts, call or SMS phone numbers, send an email to clicked address, or send a BlackBerry Message to a PIN. The interface works well than that of Facebook for iPhone, which automatically takes the corresponding action when contact info is clicked, rather than giving the option to save the information for later.

The app has also improved the Chat experience by letting users see if their conversation partner is currently typing another feature lacking from Facebook for iPhone and some other native apps. Users can also search their friend lists to find chat partners quickly. In terms of performance, BlackBerry reports that it has improved Chat connection, shortened online contacts list loading time, and made Chat message delivery notifications more consistent.

The refreshed beta app is now available to registered BlackBerry Beta Zone users, and the new features will likely appear in the official version of the app when it�s released. It�s impressive to see BlackBerry one upping in some way the Facebook for iPhone app.  While it still lacks some major features present on the iOS app including Groups, the company�s mobile development team appears to be focusing on deepening the Facebook integration with BlackBerry�s core value proposition contact organization.

Google Redesign Search Engine Reuslts Page - Experimenting & Testing

Google always experiment a new things and tests for its product and now Google has just started to redesign its Search Engine Results page. One of our valuable readers has just accidently got this image and news from relevant sources that Google is redesigning its whole Search Result Page and making changes to its current design with a new color scheme and a lot more white space.

One of the Google Representatives also confirmed this news and said that Google is working and conducting one of its user tests. The newly design results page incorporates a tweaked color scheme. The greens, purples and blues are not as harsh as the current set of colors used on Google.com.

The bigger changes focus on separating and spacing out individual search results. There is simply a lot more white space around each search result and each link. Also, each search result is divided by a dashed line.

The new changes are rather dramatic for a search engine used by millions of people daily. Google is gathering data on how people react to the new changes. Those numbers will determine whether or not these changes will move out of testing and become permanent.

Earn Money Through Facebook by Watching Facebook Ads

Now Facebook users can Earn Money Online by just watching Ads on the Facebook website. Last Thursday Facebook has introduced a new program that allows users and consumers to earn financial incentive by just watching facebook ads.

Facebook will now reward their users who watch certain ads on the website with Facebook Credits, which can be redeemed to purchase goods on Facebook Deals, the company's new Groupon like daily deals service. The incentive amount, however, is not huge. Initially at least, the average ad will yield one credit, which is the equivalent of 10 Cents.

The ads will mostly be in games. CrowdStar, Digital Chocolate and Zynga are among the participating game publishers. Facebook is working with Sharethrough, SocialVibe, Epic Media and SupersonicAds to serve ads on the program as well as TrialPay, which will provide analytics.

According to Dan Greenberg, CEO of Sharethrough;

Facebook's move represents "a step away from interruptive advertising." Greenberg, whose clients include Microsoft and Nestle, says his network won't deliver traditional advertising, but rather branded entertainment, which consumers will want to not only watch, but share with their friends.

Incentivizing consumers to watch ads is one solution for Facebook's low banner click-through rates. The move comes after Facebook expanded its Credits program last week to let consumers use the Credits to buy real-world goods advertised in Deals.

Free Download Ubuntu 11.04 - Officially Released

If you are Ubuntu Geek than this news is for you, Ubuntu has released the new version of Ubuntu 11.04. You can download it from the previously linked site free of charge. Among the various new features, the Unity interface is set as the default UI, and includes the launcher (an OS X like dock), Its most noticeable change is the application launcher on the left side of the screen. Similar to Windows 7 taskbar, it lets you drag and drop icons to and from it, as well as launch apps quickly and easily. According to the Ubuntu website, the OS can boot in as little as 7 seconds.

The Unity interface was originally conceived for smaller screens on netbooks, and offers easier file management, a new dashboard that gives you easier access to your applications and files, and Workspaces that simplify managing multiple windows. If you don�t like these new interface elements, you can always go back to Ubuntu�s Classic interface.

Driving all of this eye candy is Gnome 2.32.1 (according to Ubuntu Vibes).  If your current equipment is not capable of Unity, the classic desktop experience will kick in as to keep you moving along with minimal lag.  Those of you wanting to experiment with Gnome 3, it cannot be installed via the Ubuntu repositories, and there have been reports of system instabilities post installation, though there is a workaround.  If you're ready to install, there are 3 options for download, one for a CD/USB stick type installation, another to create a second boot partition alongside windows, and another for a standard standalone installation.  The downloads are a one size fits all affair no longer is the Ubuntu Netbook edition or Desktop edition; there's just a single download for all platforms.
